Membership at Daystar

Even though we have an international focus as a Kingdom Outpost, we also desire to be a local church with a strong core of believers who walk together in a way that encourages and challenges one another on in the Lord. Our membership provides the opportunity for those who feel called to Daystar, for this season of their lives, to connect with one another. Because we have a relatively new group of members, many are just now getting to know one another. We pray that these relationships will grow and strengthen in the days to come. At this point, we do not have organized small groups, but we are open to that being established as we grow in numbers. (There are currently about 100 members, including children.) Membership also helps the leadership of Daystar to know those who are committed to the overall values that we have. There will always be many that stop through Daystar occasionally to worship with us and receive ministry, but we desire to be faithful to invest ourselves in those who call this their home-church. We hope to soon have a series of teachings on "The Foundations of Our Faith" by Johnny that will help us communicate our core values as well as be a good resource for new believers.

So what is the commitment and how do I join?

We believe that membership should never happen out of ought or obligation. Many have been raised in such a religious background that they feel pressure to join or “have their papers” with a church or denomination. While it’s scriptural and vital to our walk with God to be relationally tied in with a fellowship of believers, it should happen as the Holy Spirit leads you and your household and as “organically” as possible. The reality is that people have seasons in their lives that bring change in lifestyle, location of job and housing, and focus. These changes require Church leaders to “hold people loosely,” but, at the same time, to make an effort to know and love them while they’re there! It’s quite a difficult skill for pastors, but it must be done. The leadership at Daystar strongly believes that in the same way you may be led by the Lord to join, you can also be led to leave. God is jealous to have His people be led by the True Shepherd and we will always respect that. If you choose to join, you will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out….we will not give you our opinion of whether or not you should stop attending at Daystar unless we are asked. We will do our best to encourage you in your walk with the Lord, training and equipping you for every good work in Christ….this is our commitment to you. While we don’t have a lot of programs and self-help type groups, we believe that the teaching and general prioritizing of the presence of the Lord will be a safe place for the Holy Spirit to bring you and your family into greater freedom, fruit, and power. We feel that this works best when the leadership embraces the reality of serving you in humility as you connect with Daystar with a heart to serve as well. We believe it is important that leaders be gracious in their receiving and letting go of those the Lord sends. We also believe there is an accountability before the Lord that the congregation must embrace….to the degree that you put expectations on leaders to shepherd you, to that same degree you must allow them to shepherd you; knowing that, ultimately, you must hear from the Lord directly for yourself for when to stay and when to go.

So, with all that said, if you are interested in membership, we recommend that you come to Daystar for awhile and make an effort to connect relationally as well as discern from the Lord if this is where you are called to plug in. We periodically host a Member’s Dinner that all are welcome to attend. Basically, we have a meal together and then Johnny and Elizabeth meet with those interested in membership. These will be announced in the services and through email as needed.

We pray you always feel welcome here and trust that the Spirit will show you if this is your new Church home!
