| worship | When you come to Daystar, you may notice that our worship is different! Through the years, the Holy Spirit has taken us on a journey into new and intimate places where we are learning to express a deep passion to God that He is worthy to receive! Much of our corporate worship time is spent prioritizing ministry to Him rather than trying to help others have a good time of praise or even to prepare their hearts for a message. Although these are common motivations for worship teams, they are not the direction the Lord has given Daystar. Oftentimes we do not provide words to our songs because the worship team is seeking to be led by the Holy Spirit as they flow with Him in spontaneous sounds and songs. Their focus in worship is to prefer the Lord rather than the general congregation's needs, desires, and musical preferences. We trust the Holy Spirit is teaching all of us how to minister to the Lord as we choose individually within our hearts to look at the Father, gazing on the beauty of Who He is to each of us.
We would like to encourage you to allow the Holy Spirit to teach you to minister to God in ways that may seem new or too "unstructured" to you. You are free to lay at His feet, dance before Him, and move as you are led by the Lord. Many of us are so in touch with our own style and comfort in the way we worship, that we have not realized that this is all for Him. Therefore, we believe that we must seek to know Him in a way that we move, sing, and worship according to His likes and desires. Scripture shows us that "those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth." If we worship Him in Spirit, then we will reflect the fact that He is not of this world and He is a God of passion expressed in movement, sounds of all kinds and volumes, colors, and even fragrances. Just as you would prepare a meal for someone you love, you would consider their favorites as well as new tastes you think they would enjoy. You would certainly not plan their meal around what you like to cook or even around what requires the least effort. As you knew the person better, you might even learn new dishes that you find out they like…..all because you love them. You would also closely observe their responses so that you can tell what really pleases them. Although this example is quite different than worshiping our Creator, it is similar in a few ways. While you worship, begin to tune in closely to the spirit realm, noticing the Lord's presence and even angelic activity increase as you give yourself to the Lord in different ways. Like the game children play when they hide an object and someone tells the one looking if they are getting hotter or colder; so, too, is worship with the Holy Spirit leading us to the increased "places" of the Lord's presence…where His glory dwells. We give ourselves, our worship, from the inside out; our outward expression of our voices and bodies displaying the passion and fervor of our spirit. Out of love and a desire to please Him, we release our whole self (body, mind, spirit, and emotions) to the Holy Spirit, because He ultimately can lead us into worship that deeply pleases our Father. We believe that, as we learn to do this individually, the Lord will release more and more of His glory on us corporately. As each one of us becomes more and more radically extravagant in our worship, He will become more extravagant in His manifest presence in our midst! Worship as one who could never give back to God the glory He is due, yet as one who will be known for trying with all his heart, mind, and strength. Exhaust yourself on Him, reserving no reputation for yourself. If your hunger and passion is not what you believe He is worthy of, there are some easy things you can do to provoke your spirit to a place of deeper worship. Remember that the real you is not your flesh or what you feel, but rather the real you is your spirit man….that part of you that will live forever in the presence of God. Tune out your feelings and the cares of this world and tune in to your spirit that is totally in touch with its yearning for God. Look around the room for others who are already yielded to the Lord and freely expressing their worship. Allow what you see in them to challenge you and cultivate passion in you for the One they worship, even if their worship offends your natural mind. Allow your spirit to be jealous for the freedom they have found! Even if you have to "go through the motions" (singing when you don't feel like it, expressing in your body what you may not feel), trust that your feelings will catch up with your actions. In our culture of Western Christianity, we must work diligently not to serve the Lord from a place of luke-warmness. We must choose to take on an identity that may even seem contradictory to our personality…one who is desperate for God. There is freedom in this House! May the intensity of your worship reflect the intensity of Who He has revealed Himself to be to you! |
